Washington in Good Form
Washington battled New England for a second straight year in the Whitney Cup Final on Sunday. Haven Pell and Robin Martin got the team off to a promising start with a dramatic 6-5 third set victory over the talented N.E. team of Jonathan Pardee and Alex Walsh. The H.D.S. Boenning Award for Sportsmanship was given to Rich Moroscak at the USCTA Annual Dinner in New York this past weekend. It was the first time a Washington player has won the award. Well done , Rich!
The 2009 Whitney Cup gets underway this weekend in New York City. The Whitney Cup is an interclub doubles comptetion where the 10 best players from each club play against one another. Last year, Washington almost turned the court tennis world on its head by reaching the final and came within one point of winning the whole thing (mind you Washington had never beaten a team in this competition previously). The Whitney Cup coincides with the United States Court Tennis Association Annual Dinner and Auction and it is strongly encouraged that we have as many members of Prince’s Court attend as possible. It’s a wonderful evening and why not make a weekend out of it by watching some spectacular tennis whilst cheering on your Prince’s Court brethren to victory!

Washington’s first match is against Tuxedo from 11AM-4PM on Friday

The top Prince’s Court players are stacking up well against the rest of the U.S. clubs, as five of our members are in the most recent Top 25 List as released by the United States Court Tennis Association. Rich Moroscak is tied for 6th place, Bill Barker is tied for 12th place, John Motz is in 14th place followed by Brad Allen in 15th place, and rounding out the list is Kris Motz in 25th place. Not bad for a 12 year old club! The list comes out four times a year and you must be a USCTA member to appear on the list, so remember to pay your USCTA dues!
